Rod Kelley Celebrates Successful Trod

The 24th annual Rod’s Trod — Rod’s Craft: Building for the Future — was another huge success. Thank you everyone who helped! We raised $9,625 for the school. This money will help support field trips, classroom supplies, books and other necessities.

As a school, the students and staff walked a total of 15,550 laps! That’s 5,183 miles, which is equal to traveling from Gilroy to Washington, D.C., to San Francisco and ending in Los Angeles! Way to go Knights!

We can break those numbers down to the 20 Lap, 25 Lap and 30 Lap Clubs. Here’s how we did:

The annual event also made lots of our students individual winners!

Of course, the overall top walkers and top pledge earners are the highlight of the entire event.

Overall Student Walkers

1st — Alejandro Gonzalez, 5th Grade, 50 laps

2nd — Saul Hernandez Sanchez, 4th Grade, 48 laps

3rd — Brayden Hopkins, 5th Grade, 43 laps

Top Staff/Teacher

Ms. Pretti, 5th Grade, 38 laps

Overall Pledges

1st — Amanda Carroll, 3rd Grade

2nd — Kai Gemar, 2nd Grade

3rd — Sean Kropff, 4th Grade

T-Shirt Design Winners

We had lots of great entries for the design. Hipolito Dominguez from Ms. Montano's 2nd grade class and Kaitlyn Gutierrez from Sr. Lopez's 5th grade class had the best overall designs so their two designs were combined to create the official Trod shirt.

The grade-level winners were:

Kinder/1st Grade - Joseph Serrano, Ms. Wenzel

2nd/3rd Grade - Izabel Cabrera Regalado, Ms. Alvarado

4th/5th Grade - Xiomora Garcia, Ms. Ospina

Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to the New School Year!

On behalf of the entire staff at RKS, it is truly my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to you as we begin the 2013-14 school year at Rod Kelley Elementary School.  We will make every effort to help your child academically and socially this year.  It is our goal to create an enriching learning environment that engages the student.  Our goal is to not only provide the academic rigor necessary for our continued success, but we also strive to emphasize character education and good citizenship.

I encourage you to become active in our Parent Club activities and support our fundraisers.  These funds provide monies for assemblies, classroom supplies, books, and programs that benefit our children.  Please see our Parent Club Bulletin Boards outside of the front office and near the kinder classrooms.

Finally, if your child needs additional support or if you have a concern please don’t hesitate to contact their teacher.  It is our mission to support your child in whatever way we can.  Remember, “Working together makes a difference in the lives of our students”.  Thank you for your support and cooperation.

Luis Carrillo
